Welcome to Pun Kotzky Hounds! *
We were born, raised and educated in the country that does not exist anymore, in what was then
the Soviet Union. We came to the United States in the early 90s, and since then reside just
outside of Washington D.C. We both conduct biomedical research at the National Institutes of
Health in Bethesda, MD.
Our first dog was a beagle. Seeing how beagles are much akin to cats, we decided to name our
kennel after a famous Ukrainian fairy tale about one resourceful pussy – the one and only Pun
Kotzky. Beagles are small, purr when petted, and love wasting time observing the great big
world looking out the window. Beagles are also highly independent and very strong willed –
much like Rudyard Kipling’s cat, they walk by themselves to the beat of their own drum.
Pun Kotzky, the eponymous cat of fairy tale fame, was ditched in the middle of a forest after
failing to become the mouse-hunting beast the owner thought he should be. Pun Kotzky
managed to survive various hardships, eventually marrying the Lady Fox and becoming King of
the Forest. In the same spirit as Pun Kotzky, our dogs grew to be the kings of our castle.
We acquired our first beagle, Bobbik, in 1994 and immediately fell in love with this wonderful
and very special breed. Bobbik was hardly a show dog in appearance, but he nevertheless
possessed a genuine beagle personality. He quickly became the most important family member.
Ten years later, we purchased a show prospect beagle, Toozik, from David and Lesley Hiltz of
Starbuck Torbay. Toozik turned into a successful show, and more importantly, performance
beagle. Several years later we enjoyed half a dozen beagles running around the house!
Recently, we acquired a PBGV puppy who instantly became a great complement to our beagle
pack . Elza came to us from the famous Soletrader Kennel in the UK. We are thrilled and
fascinated with this fantastic puppy and we have a lot of expectations for her!
Through various hound-related events and activities, we met and befriended many great
people. We are planning to become further involved in the well-being of these wonderful breeds.
